Apple has unveiled a refreshed 24-inch iMac, which is the first Mac to receive an update to the company's M4 processor lineup. The M4 chips range from an 8-core CPU with 4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores and an 8-core GPU to a 10-core CPU with 4 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores, paired with a 10-core GPU.

The entry-level model, priced at $1,299, features two USB Type-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 support. Models with a 10-core CPU start at $1,499 and come with four Thunderbolt 4 ports. Apple claims that the iMac with M4 is 1.3 times faster than the M3 model and 1.7 times faster than the M1 in Excel productivity.

Every new iMac now comes with 16GB of unified memory, a move likely influenced by the performance demands of Apple Intelligence. Users can upgrade to 24GB for an additional $200, and to 32GB for another $200. However, 32GB models are only available with 512GB or more storage.

Apple is promoting the iMac as a new platform for Apple Intelligence, describing it as the 'best all-in-one for AI.' The company has also introduced macOS Sequoia 15.1 to enable the feature on existing Macs. The iMac also features a new 'nano-texture' glass display option to reduce glare and a 12MP webcam. The Magic keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad have all transitioned from Lightning to USB Type-C, though the charging port on the Magic Mouse remains at the bottom, requiring the mouse to be flipped over for charging.

The new iMac is available in new shades of blue, purple, pink, orange, yellow, green, and silver. Pre-orders are now open, with availability in stores on November 8.
